Family Beach Vacations

Beach vacations are great for families. They are a place to have fun, bond as a family, and make great memories. The following tips can help you put together the perfect beach vacations for your family.
  • Which Beach? - Decide what beach you want to visit. Keep “family friendly” in mind when choosing beach vacations and the time of year you decide to go. You do not want an overcrowded beach that may be inappropriate for small children. (For example, during college spring break.)

  • Where Will You Stay? - After you find the perfect beach vacations, you need to choose a place to stay. Think about what suits your family best. A resort? A hotel room? A condominium? A beach house? Choose a rental that fits into your beach vacations budget. Other considerations include the need for a kitchen and if you are bringing the family pet.

  • What is There to Do? - Now that you have the beach vacations and the accommodations, you need to find out what there is to do. Especially with children, you want to know what activities they will be able to enjoy.

  • What to Pack? - It is always best to pack on the light side, but do not forget the necessities. Bring appropriate clothing and toiletries, but also bring essentials like floats, sunscreen, extra towels, and more.

  • What About Food? - Make sure everyone eats before hitting the road. Stop whenever anyone is hungry. In addition, consider food once you arrive at your beach vacations? Are you planning to eat out all week? If so, you will need a list of restaurants in the area. If your rental has a kitchen and you are planning to cook, decide if you will bring groceries with you or do the shopping when you get to the beach.

  • Are We There Yet? - If you are driving to the beach, stop for bathroom breaks and just to stretch often. If traveling with children, make sure you pack things to do and snacks for the road.

  • Are We Ready to Hit the Beach? - Make sure your children check in with you before heading to the beach. You want to ensure they have applied sunscreen, are properly dressed, have safety devices, and are educated about swimming rules.

  • What Needs Taking Care of at Home? - Make sure you follow through with things that need to be taken care of at home. Who will feed the dog? Does the mail need to be picked up? What about responsibilities at work? If you know things are okay at home, you will enjoy your beach vacations more.
